Yuma Family Pumpkin Patch

Around town, dining and attractions

The annual Yuma Family Pumpkin Patch hosted and located at the Champion Church off of Avenue 3E is back in town again.

Offering Halloween enthusiasts all the brighter, cheery sides of the holiday, the event had tractor rides, a petting zoo, hay maze, face painting, bounce houses,  various games like sack races, food stands, costume tents and of course the pumpkin patch.

Unfortunately, by the time me and my little one got there, most of the decent pumpkins were already gone from the already small patch and the rest were not something I would want to parade on my front porch.

With a seemingly reasonable entry fee of five dollars (according to their website) I was not immediately off-put by the relatively small size of the event. It wasn’t until we got inside and realized not only did you have to pay to get in but you had to pay again if you wanted a pumpkin or food or costume or to participate in a number of the attractions (not mentioned on the website) that I decided just how not worth it the pumpkins really were.

At the close of the evening they offered a pirate show, which we ended up not staying for, partially because of a tired little one and partially because a pirate show doesnt exactly scream “HALLOWEEN” to me.

When deciding if this is the right fit for your family keep in mind the age and attention spans of your children, mine being almost two was not interested in being in one place very long so a sit down show just wasn’t for us.

It can easily be a great night out for the family especially with school age children, just remember to bring much more cash than advertised if you actually want to go home with a pumpkin.
