SAVE LIVES AND DONATE BLOOD

MCAS Yuma and United Blood Service is having a blood drive Dec. 7 at the station gym from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., promoting for the campaign “Find the hero in you.”

Not only can you save lives but for those who donate at the Dec. 7 Blood Drive, Outback Steakhouse is giving away free appetizer vouchers.

 

YUMA NEIGHBORHOOD LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

City of Yuma residents are invited to learn all about the inner workings of their city government, two hours at a time, two nights a month as a part of the Yuma Neighborhood Leadership Academy beginning Jan. 8, 2013.  There is no fee to apply or attend. Admission is restricted to City residents only. The first deadline for applications is Dec. 3.  The approximately 15 academy participants will meet two Tuesdays a month through November 2013 (no sessions will be held in June, July or August) learning about different departments of the City organization, taking tours of City facilities and related amenities such as a fire station, Yuma Art Center and historic Downtown Yuma. HAVE IMMIGRATION QUESTIONS?

On Dec. 6 at the MCAS Yuma Law Center, Bldg. 852, beginning at 5 p.m., United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) representatives will offer the air station a community outreach opportunity for anyone on the station to come and ask specific questions about immigration.  This is a great opportunity for military members, retirees and their family members to get one-on-one attention with folks that are doing the interviews and making decisions for the regional office in Arizona.  Please contact Joe Covarrubias at (928) 269-2481 for further questions and to RSVP.

 

COMMISSARY REWARDS CARDS, COUPONS MADE EASY

The Commissary Rewards Card is saving commissary customers time and money through digital coupons, and more customers are welcome to join. Since the launch in September 2012, shoppers have redeemed more than $85,000 in Commissary Rewards Card coupons, and there’s ample room for more customers to get a card and get in on the savings.  The card is easy to use. Any authorized commissary user can pick up a card at their commissary, complete the registration online and load digital coupons on their card. In fact, families with multiple shoppers – a military member and spouse, for example – are each encouraged to have their own rewards card. COLLEGE AND JOB FAIR AT SONORAN PUEBLO

A Job and College Fair is being held on Monday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sonoran Pueblo Club.  There will also be two drawings for a Samsung 10.1 Tablet, but you must attend to be eligible for the drawing.  Contact the Station Education Center at (928)269-3589 for a full list of schools and employers.

 

DEPT HOMELAND SECURITY HIRING EVENT

On Thurs, Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will hold a hiring event at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, 4025 Tripoli Ave, Bldg 14, San Diego.  This event is open to veteran’s interested in working in the Federal Protective Service (FPS).  For more information contact Mina Threat at (619)524-1283.

 

STATION EDUCATION CENTER CLOSURE

The MCAS Yuma Education Center will be closed Nov. 28 for the staff training and will re-open at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 29.  Please contact Cindy Harris if you have questions about education benefits available to military service members.  She can be reached at (928)269-3589.

 

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING CHILDCARE AVAILABLE

The Women’s Enrichment Ministry of MCAS Yuma Chapel is offering free childcare for parents who would like the opportunity to shop on Dec. 1 at the Chapel Fellowship Hall on station.  For more information, please contact the station Chapel office at (928)269-2371.

 

NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAY WINTER CLEAN-UP

To celebrate National Public Lands Day (NPLD) and the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD), and the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) have teamed up to help clean up recreation sites in the Yuma vicinity.  Please join us for the NPLD Clean Up event on Sat, Dec. 1 from 8 a.m. to noon.  The staging area for the event will be at Mittry Lake Recreation Area, which is approximately 8 miles northeast of Yuma.  For more information, please contact Lori Cook at (928)317-3243.
