Save Lives and Donate Blood
MCAS Yuma and United Blood Service is having a blood drive Dec. 7 at the station gym from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., promoting for the campaign “Find the hero in you.” Not only can you save lives but for those who donate at the Dec. 7 Blood Drive, Outback Steakhouse is giving away free appetizer vouchers.

City of Yuma residents are invited to learn all about the inner workings of their city government, two hours at a time, two nights a month as a part of the Yuma Neighborhood Leadership Academy beginning Jan. 8, 2013. There is no fee to apply or attend. Admission is restricted to City residents only. The first deadline for applications is Dec. 3.
The approximately 15 academy participants will meet two Tuesdays a month through November 2013 (no sessions will be held in June, July or August) learning about different departments of the City organization, taking tours of City facilities and related amenities such as a fire station, Yuma Art Center and historic Downtown Yuma.

California Highway Patrol Recruitment
The California Highway Patrol is accepting applications from Jan. 3 to Jan 5, 2013. Prior to submitting an application, CHP will hold two recruitment orientations in Southern California – Dec. 11 and 18. Have immigration questions?
On Dec. 6 at the MCAS Yuma Law Center, Bldg. 852, beginning at 5 p.m., United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) representatives will offer the air station a community outreach opportunity for anyone on the station to come and ask specific questions about immigration.
This is a great opportunity for military members, retirees and their family members to get one-on-one attention with folks that are doing the interviews and making decisions for the regional office in Arizona.

Thrift Shop will be closed the week of Christmas and will reopen on January 2, 2013!
Reminder: Visiting Nurse services are available! Our new Visiting Nurse, Tricia Otts, RN, is available Monday through Thursday 9am-2pm for all types of patient health education. Services to new parents/babies/children, surgical/medical patients, and retirees are available. Tricia will visit homes or meet in her office to help with all types of health education. This is a free service provided by the Society for the benefit of your Marines, Sailors, and their families. Contact phone is 928-269-5401.
FYI: It looks like our successful pilot program for $500 Quick Assist Loans will probably be approved in January implementation across the Society. Quick Assist Loans have become and remain a large part of the Society’s business. From now through 31 Dec 2012, our office, and other offices in the southwest region, are offering this increased amount as a quick solution to short term emergency needs. As with all emergency financial assistance, loans are interest-free!
Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Scholarship
Applications for Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) educational scholarships and interest-free loans for the 2013-2014 academic year are now available and can be downloaded at www.nmcrs.org/education. Applications must be received at NMCRS by May 1, 2013 unless the due date on the application states otherwise.
Children, Youth and Teen Programs Update
Baby Sitter’s Course: If your between the ages 12-18 years and still in high school and you’re interested in learning in First Aid, Child and Infant CPR and other topics, sign up for the next course, on December 20th, 21st and 26th. There are seven seats available at $35.00 per youth. Registration is located at the Youth Centers building #1050 and parents can contact Resource and Referral at (928) 269-2349 for more details.
