On this day in history, April 27:

Year 1521:  Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan was killed in a fight with natives of the Philippines

Year 1865:  The worst steamship disaster in the history of the United States occurred when there was an explosion aboard the Sultana; more than 1,400 people were killed.

Year 1938: U.S.A.– Average Incomes drops more than 20 percent. The national average income  dropped in comparison from 10 years ago in 1928; many areas of the workforce earning up to 20 percent less than they had 10 years prior in 1918, in a prelude to the Great Depression.

Year 1958: Stop Nuclear Bomb Testing:  Scientists around the world are asking politicians to stop nuclear bomb tests including the Nobel Prize Winner Dr. Albert Schweitzer.
