Staff Sgt. Robert Young III

99th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Nellis AFB, Nev.

Customer Service Liaison Supervisor

Time at Nellis: 5 years

Time in Air Force: 5 years

Hometown: Cortland, N.Y.

What does your job consist of?

My job is troubleshooting materiel management concerns and customer feedback, conducting bench stock management and coordinating base-level supply customer training.

Why did you join the Air Force?

Growing up in a small town people tend to never leave, so I joined for the chance to travel.

What are your Air Force goals?

My goal, at the moment, is to attain the rank of master sergeant.

Who is your role model?

My dad is my role model.

What is one thing you wish you were told when you joined the service?

I would like to have known that my career field and operations were being contracted out on most of the bases on the East Coast.

What is your dream job and why?

I would like to be ‘the guy in charge’ of rating 5 star hotels on the beach because — let’s face it — who doesn’t want to be on a beach.

If you won a million dollars, what is the first thing you would buy?

I want a 1973 Charger — my family had one when I was in high school.

What motivates you at work?

Hearing the war stories from the civilians and Veterans I work with is really a motivator for me.

Staff Sgt. Young’s supervisor says:

“Staff Sgt. Young is an outstanding noncommissioned officer who jumped right in and took charge of several programs and leads a team of three Airmen. I expect Sergeant Young to go far in the Air Force with his hard work and can-do attitude.”
