Resiliency training for Senior Noncommissioned officers

By Master Sgt. David Miller
99th Air Base Wing Public Affairs

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. — Resiliency training will be held Aug. 1 and 2 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the base theater for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers.

For military members and their families resiliency is often associated with stressors that derive from being new to the military — encounters such as tragedy, deployments, financial issues and marital issues. While these issues may be associated with resiliency, they do not define it.

Nellis has two level-one Master Resilience Trainers and two level-two MRTs. There are 25 Resilience Training Assistants who provide assistance at the squadron level.

“Since its implementation in Mar. 2011, more than 2,300 Airmen have received training through the First Term Airman Center and other forums”, said Jenna Lightfoot, Installation Lead Master Resilience Trainer.

The two hours of training will be a small portion of what is taught at the First Term Airman Center. Airmen from technical training are given 10 hours of resiliency training.

Air Force Instruction 36-2618 states SNCOs primary purpose is mission accomplishment. They must lead and manage teams while maintaining the highest level of readiness to ensure mission success.

SNCOs who’ve attended the training will be able to utilize the skills learned there for both themselves and their subordinates. Resiliency training helps individuals attain positive outcomes and allows SNCOs to provide guidance, mentorship and friendship to their peers and those under them.

Resiliency training is performed at all military tier levels.
