57 MXS Munitions Flight Closure: IAW AFI 21-201, Paragraph 7.11, the Munitions Storage Area will be closed for a wall-to-wall inventory from Sept. 7-14. All issue requests must be submitted no later than Close of Business Sept. 3. Munitions must be picked up and/or turned in no later than Close of Business Sept. 6. Emergency issue requests must be approved, in writing, by the Group Commander or equivalent. Scheduling errors that result in issue requests for daily use and training munitions are NOT considered an emergency situation. Contact Master Sgt. Gressick, Mater Sgt. Yoder or Tech. Sgt. 2012 Olympia’s U.S. Air Force Xtreme Fit Challenge: The Olympia’s U.S. Air Force Xtreme Fit Challenge, the ultimate test of physical skill, mental toughness and unfailing team work. Held at Olympia Weekend on Sept. 28-29 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall in Las Vegas, Nev., teams from the U. S. Air Force will engage in a battle for dominance on the most grueling fitness courses ever devised. Each team will compete head-to-head, pitting their strength, endurance and mental aptitude against each other for the chance to come out on top and earn the title, the 2012 Olympia’s U.S. Air Force Xtreme Fit Challenge Champion! Information Tickets and Travel: ITT has information on Las Vegas and it’s surrounding points of interest. If you have any questions, we will find the answer! Tickets are on sale for most of the Las Vegas showrooms on the World Famous “Strip”. We sell dozens of tours and we have Front-of-the-Line and VIP packages to the hottest Night Clubs. Movie tickets are available for Galaxy and Regal theaters located all over Las Vegas. The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families: Sesame Street and the USO are bringing the furry, fuzzy and friendly muppets to military families at Nellis Air Force Base’s Youth Center Gym Aug. 28 and 29 at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. This is a free show — first come, first served.

Retiree Appreciation Day: The annual Retiree Appreciation Day will be held at the Thunderbird Hangar, 4445 Tyndall Avenue, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 15, 2012. All retirees of all Services and their guests are invited. There will be various booths with military-affiliated organizations, plus representatives to discuss Veterans Affairs issues, explosive ordnance disposal booth, fire department booth, finance, space available travel, and health services. Nellis Exchange “Sound Off Survey” scheduled: Nellis shoppers’ opportunity to participate in the 2012 Customer Satisfaction Index is coming to the Exchange Aug. 4-25. During this time, troops and their families are encouraged to visit the Exchange to provide feedback on locally available services. Beyond improving the Exchange benefit, shoppers who participate will also receive a coupon worth $5 off their next purchase at the Exchange. Upcoming Events:

Aug. 25: Bristlecone Loop Trail. Join Outdoor Recreation on this fun filled adventure through Ponderosa and Bristlecone Pines. Trip departs at 8 a.m. Cost is $10; PLAYpass eligible. Call 652-8967 for more information.

Aug. 31 – Sept. 2: South Rim Grand Canyon Campout. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend with a camping trip on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Depart Outdoor Recreation at 10 a.m. Aug. 31 and return late Sunday afternoon. Cost is $90 and includes transportation, food while in camp and camping equipment. Event is PLAYpass eligible. Call the Outdoor Recreation at 652-8967 for more information.

Sept. 8: Land Sailing. Join Outdoor Recreation for a day of land sailing near Primm, Nev. Land sailing craft are easy to set up and sail, even for those with nor prior experience. Safety helmets and gloves will be provided, or bring your own. Cost is $60 for the sailing and transportation. PLAYpass eligible. Bring your own lunch or be prepared to purchase food at a stop along the way. Depart Nellis approximately 8 a.m., and return approximately 9 p.m.

Sept. 15: Black Canyon Kayak Adventure: Enjoy an adventure downriver from Hoover Dam and continue 12 miles down the Colorado River to Willow Beach. Cost is $50 and includes transportation, guides, equipment, launch fees and lunch; PLAYpass eligible. Showtime at the Recreation Center is 6:15 a.m., and group will return about 5:30. Call the Center for more specifics on weight limits, etc.

Sept. 22: Defensive Pistol Shooting Clinic. Clinic will be held at the Recreation Center for the classroom portion and at the Gunfighter Village in Area II. Cost is $75; PLAYpass eligible. Call the Outdoor Recreation for more specifics on this event.
