The United States Air Force Advanced Maintenance and Munitions Officer School graduated 16 senior noncommissioned officers at its fifth Advanced Maintenance Superintendent Course, Aug. 17, 2012, here at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. — The United States Air Force Advanced Maintenance and Munitions Officer School continued to expand combat capability across the Air Force with the graduation of its fifth Advanced Maintenance Superintendent Course on Aug. 17, 2012.

“AMSC students are selected from across the maintenance community because they have demonstrated superb leadership and a dedication to excellence,” said Lt. Col. Brian Moore USAF AMMOS commandant. “They possess the greatest potential to expand our combat capability through the application of advanced aircraft and munitions maintenance tactics, techniques and procedures. AMMOS is an advanced combat support school that is extremely challenging and fast paced, and in AMSC we teach expeditionary combat support skills to make these senior noncommissioned officers more capable warriors for our nation.”

The AMSC was approved in 2009 as a six-week, graduate level course to provide advanced education in expeditionary logistics and Agile Combat Support to SNCOs in the aircraft maintenance community. The course graduates are qualified in all aspects of effects-based logistics through the phases of Agile Combat Support: Readying the Force, Preparing the Battle Space, Positioning the Force, Employing and Sustaining the Force, and Recovering the Force.

Graduates understand principles of contingency and crisis action planning, and can integrate expeditionary combat support to enable effective combat sortie generation. They can skillfully manage aircraft fleet-health challenges to ensure combat readiness and more effectively support an Air Campaign. Course graduates are able to share their knowledge with subordinates, peers and leadership to build more capable maintenance professionals across the Air Force. Additionally, they act as advisors to leadership on aircraft and munitions maintenance operations at home station or deployed.

“I am extremely proud of this AMSC class,” said Maj. Jennifer Gurganus, USAF AMMOS director of operations. “The class came together as a strong team and mastered aircraft and munitions maintenance tactics, techniques and procedures. I am looking forward to hearing back from these graduates as to how they are applying what they learned at AMMOS to their home station jobs. I am sure they will enhance the maintenance community by fulfilling their AMMOS graduate roles of being producers, mentors, and advisors.”

To mark the occasion, Chief Master Sgt. Terry West, 8th Air Force Command Chief Master Sgt., served as a class mentor and graduation guest speaker.

“Leadership is all about ensuring mission readiness, stewardship, possessing a commitment to servant leadership and building relationships,” West said. “Through their curriculum, USAF AMMOS has charged these future leaders of our Air Force to create world class organizations, lead from the front, middle, and back and look for credibility as opposed to taking credit.”
