NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. — Leonard Becker, a volunteer at the 99th Medical Support Squadron satellite pharmacy was named Nevada’s August Veteran of the Month.

Becker retired from the U. S. Army after 23 years of service as a Captain and has been volunteering at the pharmacy since 1996.

“I figured there were lots of other people who deserved this award more than me, but I’m very honored to get it,” Becker said.

Becker dispenses more than 2,000 prescription orders daily and has helped the pharmacy return outdated prescription which in turn, helped the facility save $40,000 annually.

“Becker has always shown a selfless devotion to duty,” said Capt. Kate Leonard, Nellis AFB Volunteer Liaison. “The Mike O’Callaghan Federal Medical Center prides itself on the ability to deliver superior care to one of the largest active duty military and retiree populations in the United States, none of this would be possible without the countless hours that have been given by Becker.”

“Working at the pharmacy is just my way of paying back, if you will,” Becker said.
