AFSA CEO Visit Sept. 17: Retired Chief Master Sgt. John McCauslin, CEO of the Air Force Sergeants Association will visit Nellis on Sept. 17. From 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m a Town Hall will be held discussing “What’s up with the NCO today” and professional forums will be held throughout the day at the Base Theater.

Retiree Appreciation Day: The annual Retiree Appreciation Day will be held at the Thunderbird Hangar, 4445 Tyndall Avenue, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 15, 2012. All retirees of all Services and their guests are invited. There will be various booths with military-affiliated organizations, plus representatives to discuss Veterans Affairs issues, explosive ordnance disposal booth, fire department booth, finance, space available travel, and health services. 2012 National POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony: Nellis, Creech and Nevada Test and Training Range will host the 2012 National POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony Sept. 21 at 9:30 a.m. at Freedom Park. A post-reception will be held at The Club following the ceremony.

2012 Las Vegas Air Force Ball: The 2012 Las Vegas Air Force Ball will be held at the Bellagio Grand Ballroom on Sept. 22. Tickets are currently on sale. More information can be found at http://www.vegasafball.com/

57 MXS Munitions Flight Closure: IAW AFI 21-201, Paragraph 7.11, the Munitions Storage Area will be closed for a wall-to-wall inventory from Sept. 7-14. All issue requests must be submitted no later than Close of Business Sept. 3. Munitions must be picked up and/or turned in no later than Close of Business Sept. 6. Emergency issue requests must be approved, in writing, by the Group Commander or equivalent. Upcoming Events:

Sept. 8: Land Sailing. Join up with Ft. Irwin Outdoor Recreation for a Land Sailing adventure near Primm, Nev. Depart Outdoor Recreation at 8 a.m. Land Sailing is easy and fun even for the beginner. Cost is $60 and includes transportation and sailing; PLAYpass eligible. Bring your own lunch or be prepared to stop on the way for food.

Sept. 15: Black Canyon Kayak Adventure: Enjoy an adventure downriver from Hoover Dam and continue 12 miles down the Colorado River to Willow Beach. Cost is $50 and includes transportation, guides, equipment, launch fees and lunch; PLAYpass eligible. Showtime at the Recreation Center is 6:15 a.m., and group will return about 5:30. Call the Center, 652-8967 for more specifics on weight limits, etc.

Sept. 22: Defensive Pistol Shooting Clinic. Clinic will be held at the Recreation Center for the classroom portion and at the Gunfighter Village in Area II. Cost is $75; PLAYpass eligible. Call the Outdoor Recreation, 652-8967 for more specifics on this event.
