Settlement of Estate: Any person or persons having claims for or against the estate of Airman Patrick W. Retiree Appreciation Day: The annual Retiree Appreciation Day will be held at the Thunderbird Hangar, 4445 Tyndall Avenue, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 15, 2012. All retirees of all Services and their guests are invited. There will be various booths with military-affiliated organizations, plus representatives to discuss Veterans Affairs issues, explosive ordnance disposal booth, fire department booth, finance, space available travel, and health services. Free screening of “End of Watch” at Base Theater: “End of Watch” Screening: Sept. 15, 2 p.m., Base Theater. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. Passes will be available from Sept. 8 to Sept. 15 at any Exchange food facility. Some passes will be distributed during Retiree Appreciation Day at the Thunderbird Hangar on Sept. 15. The pass will indicate first come, first served. Pass will not guarantee a seat and early arrival is encouraged.

Exchange expects closures Sept. 15, 16: Due to power outages the Exchange building, 24 hour express, Class Six and Laundry and Flower Shop will be closed 4 to 10 a.m. Sept. 15 and 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sept. 16.

AFSA CEO Visit Sept. 17: Retired Chief Master Sgt. John McCauslin, CEO of the Air Force Sergeants Association will host a town hall meeting at the base theater on Sept. 17 from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m., discussing “What’s up with the NCO today.” Professional forums will be held throughout the day at the base theater. All enlisted personnel are invited to attend.

Tyndall Ave. closure due to construction: A small segment of Tyndall Ave., directly in front of Building 441, will be closed to through traffic from approximately Sept. 17 through Oct. 5 due to construction. Utilities will be installed into a new hangar facility during this time. Detour routes will be posted, utilizing Griffis Ave. and Rickenbacker Ave., to drive around the construction. AF Birthday 5K: A 5K race will take place Sept. 18 at the Warrior Fitness Center. The event is open to all DoD card holders. Warm up starts at 6:30 a.m. with the race beginning at 7 a.m.

AF Birthday Luncheon: The Cross Winds Dining Facility will be holding a special Air Force Birthday luncheon 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 18. The event is open to enlisted, officers, dependants of active duty members, retirees and dependents of retirees. Food choices will include Steamship round, glazed Cornish hen, wild pacific salmon, mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, corn on the cob, peas, glazed carrots and a variety of desserts.

2012 National POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony: Nellis, Creech and Nevada Test and Training Range will host the 2012 National POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony Sept. 21 at 9:30 a.m. at Freedom Park. A post-reception will be held at The Club following the ceremony.

Skin Cancer Screening: The Mike O’Callaghan Federal Medical Center Family Medicine Clinic will provide active duty, retirees and dependents skin cancer screenings Sept. 24 from 1:30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. For more information contact (702) 653-3256.

2012 Olympia’s U.S. Air Force Xtreme Fit Challenge: The Olympia’s U.S. Air Force Xtreme Fit Challenge, the ultimate test of physical skill, mental toughness and unfailing team work. Held at Olympia Weekend on Sept. 28-29 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall in Las Vegas, Nev., teams from the U. S. Air Force will engage in a battle for dominance on the most grueling fitness courses ever devised. Each team will compete head-to-head, pitting their strength, endurance and mental aptitude against each other for the chance to come out on top and earn the title, the 2012 Olympia’s U.S. Air Force Xtreme Fit Challenge Champion! Upcoming Events:
Sept. 15: Black Canyon Kayak Adventure: Enjoy an adventure downriver from Hoover Dam and continue 12 miles down the Colorado River to Willow Beach. Cost is $50 and includes transportation, guides, equipment, launch fees and lunch; PLAYpass eligible. Showtime at the Recreation Center is 6:15 a.m., and group will return about 5:30.
