Tyndall Ave. closure due to construction: A small segment of Tyndall Ave., directly in front of Building 441, will be closed to through traffic from approximately Sept. 17 through Oct. 5 due to construction. Utilities will be installed into a new hangar facility during this time. Detour routes will be posted, utilizing Griffis Ave. and Rickenbacker Ave., to drive around the construction. Base-wide Oktoberfest celebration: The 57th Operations Group will host an Oktoberfest celebration at The Club at 3:30 p.m. today to promote base-wide unity.There will be live music and German food and drinks at the event, and all Department of Defense ID card holders are welcome to attend. Drug Take Back Campaign this Saturday: NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. — The National Drug Take Back Campaign will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Exchange. Department of Defense beneficiaries will be able to walk up to the booth and dispose of their prescription and over-the-counter medications in a disposal box provided by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Only solid, oral dosage forms like tablets and capsules will be accepted. There will be no questions asked or counting medications since disposal is purely voluntary. Pharmacy members will be available for medication counseling and may also provide brochures such as Food and Drug Administration disposal recommendations and the Mail Order Pharmacy program. In the past, Nellis AFB collected 104 lbs in April 2011, 116 lbs in October 2011 and 136 lbs in April 2012. The April 2011 collection was DEA lauded no.1 in Nev. The Oct. collection was no. 1 out of Air Combat Command bases. The goal for this event will be to collect 150 lbs.
