NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. — Angel Reynoso, a 17-year-old Centennial High School student, was presented with the Nellis AFB Youth of the Year Award by the youth center chief of youth programs here Jan. 10.

Reynoso was recognized for his countless hours of community service, involvement in the youth center programs and being a positive role model to younger children.

“I always come to the youth center to volunteer,” Reynoso said.

“Whenever there is an opportunity for me to give back, such as feeding the homeless or going to a senior citizen home, I would go and give a little positivity and kindness to those people,” he added.

“Angel has been involved in the youth program for about six or seven years,” said Carol Padilla, youth center chief of youth programs. “He has been recognized almost every year as a teen of the month, so I am very proud of him.”

Not only has Reynoso been heavily involved in the youth center, he is also a member of the theatre club at his high school and is an active participant in his church as a mission worker and Sunday school teacher for preschool and elementary aged children.

“Very rarely do you find a teen that is so dedicated to helping other people,” said Davin Watson, youth center teen director. “He has an excitement to go out and do for others that can’t do for themselves.”

Angel isn’t the only one in the Reynoso family who volunteers in the community. His father, Master Sgt. Benjamin Reynoso, 99th Medical Support Squadron, was a volunteer coach for basketball and baseball season. He is currently deployed to Southwest Asia.

“After he won, he and his mother were able to [contact] his father, which was awesome,” Padilla said.

Reynoso continues to be a valuable member to the community by his positive influence and guidance to everyone around him.

“Angel is a leader in all aspects of what we do, especially in community service and giving back,” Watson said.

Reynoso will participate in the state competition for a chance to represent Nevada at the regional competition later this year.
