Q. I’m an active-duty service member. My family and I are enrolled in Prime. I was told my Prime Service Area is going away. I thought I had to be TRICARE Prime no matter what. What happens now?
A. You and your family remain covered under a Prime option. Since you live greater than 50 miles from a military treatment facility, you continue under TRICARE Prime Remote. Your family is grandfathered in Prime. You or your family lose Prime-option coverage in your current location if you move, you retire, or you or your family members lose TRICARE eligibility. Remember, under Prime, if you or your family gets specialty services without a referral and authorization, you’re responsible for all costs and your family pays point of service costs.
Q. Are the Prime Service Areas going away because of the contract change from TriWest to United Healthcare?
A. No, this change isn’t due to change in the West region contractor.
