Red Flag continues: ‘Tigers’ push training to max

A U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon assigned to the 79th Fighter Squadron ‘Tigers’ streaks down the Nellis runway as it takes off for a night mission during Red Flag 13-3, Feb. 27 at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. Members assigned to the 79th FS have flown around-the-clock to gain as much combat training as possible during the three-week long exercise.

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. — The second week of Red Flag 13-3 began March 5 here. As the exercise moves forward, the 79th Fighter Squadron ‘Tigers’ continue to fly several missions in order to gain as much training as possible.

Red Flag is a combat training exercise involving the air forces of the United States and its allies.

It is hosted north of Las Vegas on the Nevada Test and Training Range — the U.S. Air Force’s military training area with more than 12,000 square miles of airspace and 2.9 million acres of land.

Airmen assigned to the 20th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron have worked around-the clock to maintain the 79th FS jets while also launching and recovering the planes before and after each mission.
