57th Wing hosts blood drive

If you give just one unit . . .
Tech. Sgt. Tim Bennett, 757th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron assistant section chief, donates blood at the 57th Wing blood drive March 25, at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. One unit of blood can be separated into several components such as red blood cells, plasma, platelets, and cryoprecipitate. Donor blood is used to help women who have complications during childbirth, patients with cancer, children with Sickle Cell Disease,
accident victims, patient undergoing certain kinds of surgeries, and it also supports patients at the Mike O’Callaghan Federal Medical Center.

Using sterile needles . . .
Sterile needles are always used to withdraw blood from donors. The process for donating blood takes approximately one hour, which includes the interview, donation, and refreshments. The blood drive was held at the outdoor recreation center and was open to all eligible donors at Nellis Air Force Base, Creech AFB and the Nevada Test and Training Range.
