Community Happenings – July 19, 2012

  • Walk-in GI Bill briefing 2 p.m.

Every Friday:

  • Social hour at the Robin’s Roost 4 p.m.

Deployed Spouses supporting Deployed Spouses: Stay strong during deployments and meet with other deployed spouses. Share ideas, learn coping skills, socialize and more. Meetings are held at the Airman and Family Readiness Center from 11 a.m. to noon the first and third Monday of each month. For more information call (702) 652-3327.

Education Office Closed: The 99th Force Support Squadron Education Office and Defense Logistics Agency’s  will be closed Fridays through Sept. 27 as a result of furlough actions. The education office will remain open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

EFMP Parent Support Group: Share common experiences unique to special needs families and learn about new information and resources. We meet the third Wednesday of every month at the Airman and Family Readiness Center.

July 20: Sunset Barbecue Horseback Ride: As the afternoon heat fades into cooler evening temperatures, relax in the saddle as your horse follows the winding trail through the narrows. Enjoy the sunset against the colorful Spring Mountains and Red Rock Canyon. Anticipate a nice tasty meal under the evening sky. Adventure departs at 5 p.m. from outdoor recreation and return at approximately 9:30 p.m.. Cost is $140 per person. Children 12 and below/active duty E-4 & below are $135 per person.

July 24: Free ChiRunning Introductory Talk: Senior Certified ChiRunning instructor Cheryl Lloyd talks efficient and injury-free running form that can benefit beginners to elite athletes. Attend the free introductory talk and recieve discount registration for Septemeber running clinics. Conference is 3-4:30 p.m.

July 25-27: NAFB Youth Soccer Registration: Registration for this year’s youth soccer league will be held at the youth center from 8 a.m-6 p.m. on July 25-26. Registration will also be held at The Base Exchange 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on July 26-27. Age groups range from 3-12 and registration is open to all male/female dependents of active duty, retired military and Department of Defense civilians.

July 26: North Rim Grand Canyon Camp Out: Beat the Vegas heat in the cooler environment of the North Rim Grand Canyon. Visit the historic Grand Canyon Lodge and absorb the scenic views of the Canyon from several vantage points. A general store and coin operated hot showers are available just outside the campground. Adventure departs Friday at 9 a.m. from Outdoor Rec and returns at approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Cost of $90 includes transportation, food in campground and all camping equipment.

July 27: 27-Hole Partnership: Sign up today for this year’s 27-Hole Partnership. 7:30 a.m. Shot-Gun Formats: Eagle -1 Best Ball, Falcon Combined Score, Eagle Scramble; Make your own teams, Players will be awarded 80 percent handicap, Flights will be made based on combined handicaps. Entry fee is $65 for non-golf course members, $55 for golf course members, includes Green Fee, Cart Fee, Range Balls, Food and Prizes. Aug. 1: Staff Sergeant Release Social: All supervisors, family and friends are invited to the Desert Oasis club from 3- 5 p.m., to celebrate Nellis’ newest staff sergeant selectees.
