Commissaries offer extra savings in September

FORT LEE, Va. — Commissaries continue to offer special savings such as sidewalk events and “door buster” sales with discounts up to 50 percent on certain items to help fill the void from cancelled case lot sales.

“Although we aren’t offering worldwide case lot sales in September, our customers will still find plenty of savings in their local commissary,” said Randy Chandler, the Defense Commissary Agency’s director of sales. “This month, we are working with our industry partners to go well above and beyond the regular 30 percent savings our customers can expect when they shop.”

One event in particular is the second in a series of DeCA Door Buster sales for September. This one, available Sept. 16-18 for commissaries in the continental United States, will offer discounts ranging from 40 to 50 percent off on the following products: Viva Paper Towels, Tyson Chicken Strips (crispy), Minute Maid Orange Juice (low acid), Yoplait Yogurts – Original Blueberry, Original Cherry, Peach, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, French Vanilla, Key Lime, Mixed Berry, Orange Cream, Pina Colada and Raspberry. This event is not available for commissaries in Alaska, Hawaii, Europe and the Pacific. Look for the third and final event in the series Sept. 23-25.

In place of September case lot sales, commissaries are featuring smaller, more frequent sales events and in-store promotions. “These new sales are less costly for the commissary to support but still provide our customers with extra savings in their pocket,” Chandler said.

Customers are reminded to contact their local commissary to find out what special events are occurring at their store. To find out what promotional savings are available at their store, customers can go to www.commissaries.com, click on the “Shopping” tab, then “Savings Aisle.” For general information about what special events are occurring at their store, again go to www.commissaries.com, click on the “Locations” tab, then “Alphabetical Listing” to locate their store and access “Local Store Information.”
