PMEL Airmen maintain, calibrate equipment

A pressure-temperature test set is used to test aircraft cockpit panels by simulating in-flight pressure conditions.

Tech. Sgt. Each piece of equipment is placed in the holding area for a minimum of four hours so it can adjust to the temperature of the laboratory before being calibrated. Some equipment that PMEL aligns, calibrate differently in hot or cool climates.

Airmen assigned to PMEL are technicians responsible for the repair, calibration and modifications of all measurement equipment in the Air Force. According to the Air Force website, PMEL specialists are trained to calibrate more than 7,000 different pieces of equipment ranging from torque wrenches to aircraft scales.
