Q. “We were told that the Tricare for Life Mandatory Mail-Order starts Feb. 14 and only applies to maintenance medications. Is there a listing somewhere of this category of drugs? Will notifications go out in January? Lastly, is there a transition period for this change?”
A. “We do have a list and will post to the formulary website in near future. We will do a mailing but the timing has not been nailed down. Beneficiary Education and Services is working with us to get appropriate messaging in multiple places which will also involve United Health Care. The transition will be the two fills prior to the mandatory block. The beneficiary will get a message on each of their first two fills of a maintenance med to move the med to mail order. After each of the two fills, a message will be sent by letter and automated outbound calls. On third fill it will be blocked with a message to call Express Scripts. Express Scripts will transfer to call a conversion helpdesk.”
Note: On March 1, the Continental United States Nurse Advice Line will provide 24-hour a day and seven days a week nurse triage, advice and Military Treatment Facility appointing to the Continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii. The NAL goals are to recapture care to the MTF, to reduce unnecessary Emergency Departments and Urgent Care utilization, to improve the patient’s continuous healthcare relationship with their MTF and Primary Care Manager and to maximize patient satisfaction.
• MTF enrollees calling the NAL will gain immediate access to advice from registered nurses 24 hours a day and seven days a week using standard triage protocols
• NAL RNs will advise MTF enrollees on the most clinically appropriate level of care ranging from emergency to self-care.
• NAL will provide a parent or care-giver the option of a follow-up call if self-care is advised for any pediatric patients.
• NAL will inform PCM of any enrollee call to the NAL via a Telephone-Consult in Your electronic Health Record.
