Medical center closure: Due to a mandatory base-wide exercise on March 25, 2014, the Mike O’Callaghan Federal Medical Center will be closed for normal operations with the exception of the Emergency Room and inpatient services. All outpatient clinics, including the main pharmacy, satellite pharmacy, laboratory and radiology will be closed for normal operation in support of the exercise.

Spring Fling and Family Day: Spring Fling and Family Day will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m., March 29 at Freedom Park. Free lunch will be provided. Sports include kickball, three-on-three basketball, volleyball and bouncy house; car show and big beats competition with first place teams winning up to $200 in prizes.

  • Grill Your Own Steak at The Club 5 p.m.

EFMP Parent Support Group: Share common experiences unique to special needs families and learn about new information and resources. We meet the third Wednesday of every month at the Airman and Family Readiness Center.

Nellis Company Grade Officer’s Council: The Nellis CGOC provides a source of social and professional development for all company grade officers at Nellis. Volunteer and leadership opportunities are available as well as the chance to network with other like-minded professionals at Nellis. Monthly meetings are held the last Thursday of every month at Robin’s Roost in the Club from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. For more information, call (702) 652-9623.

Deployed Spouses supporting Deployed Spouses: Stay strong during deployments and meet with other deployed spouses. Share ideas, learn coping skills, socialize and more. Meetings are held at the Airman and Family Readiness Center from 11 a.m. to noon the first and third Monday of each month. For more information, call (702) 652-3327.

The legal office expands appointment availability: The legal office has expanded its appointment availability to better serve you. Appointments are now available 9-11 a.m., and 1-3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 9-11 a.m., Friday. Due to the expanded appointment availability, walk-in hours are no longer available. To book an appointment, call the legal assistance phone line at (702) 652-7531.

Air University temporarily suspended: The Air University has temporarily suspended all active duty enrollments in the NCO Academy Distance Learning Academy Distance Learning Course. Active cuty students who were enrolled in the course have been dis-enrolled. The course is open only to reserve and guard members at this time.

Work out group: Work out with the AM-Extreme Group at the Warrior Fitness Center. Classes include: Insanity and Ab Ripper, 5:15-6:20 a.m., Mondays and Fridays in the Cardio Room; P90X, 5:15-6:20 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Cardio Room; and YogaX, 4:40-6:20 a.m., Wednesdays at Racquetball Court three. Transition Assistance Program: The airman and family readiness center has scheduled Transition Assistance Program Workshops for 2014. The workshop is designed to teach students how they can apply their military-acquired skills in the civilian sector and prepare for their next career.

Classes run 8 a.m.-4 p.m., and are scheduled for:

March 10 to 13 and 24 to 27

April 7 to10 and 21 to 24

May 5 to 8, 12 to 15 and 19 to 22

June 2 to 5, 16 to 19, and Jun 30 to Jul 3

July 14 to 17 and 28 to 31

Aug. 4 to 7, 18 to 21, and 25 to 28

Sept. 8 to 11 and 22 to 25

Oct. 6 to 9 and 20 to 23

Nov. 3 to 6 and 17 to 20

Dec. 1 to 4 and 15 to 18

Irish Four-Ball Golf Tournament: March 9, 8 a.m.-noon at the Sunrise Vista Golf Course. Tournament starts at 8 a.m. with a shot-gun start. Entry price is $45 for members and $55 for non-members. Price includes green fee, cart fee, range, prizes and lunch. Make your own teams. Format will be a modified best ball. For more information, call (702) 652-4497

Land Sailing: March 9, 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m. at outdoor recreation. Join outdoor recreation for a day of land sailing on the dry lake bed near Primm, Nev. The land sailing craft is easy to set up and sail, even for those with no prior experience. Safety helmets and gloves will be provided or you may bring your own. You may bring a lunch or be prepared to purchase food at a stop along the way. Cost is $60 for land sailing and transportation. PLAYpass eligible

Deployment Seminar: March 9, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the airman and family readiness center. Learn to build coping strengths and provide emotional support to one another during the deployment. Children will be able to make memory boxes and lunch will be served. For more information and registration, call (702) 652-3327.

Shamrock 5k Run: March 15, 7-8 a.m. at the Warrior Fitness Center. Prizes will be given.

Fern Canyon Hike: March 16, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at outdoor recreation. Join a guided hike into Fern Canyon. This is a five-mile round trip hike with two miles of open desert and the rest consisting of scrambling, boulder hopping and several crossings of a year-round stream. There is a 700-foot elevation gain that is slow and steady. The hike will take approximately three-hours to complete. This hike is not appropriate for children under 12. Water, snacks and shoes with good grip are a must. Gloves are very helpful. Cost is $10. PLAYpass eligible

Job Fair: April 17, 9 a.m.-noon at the airman and family readiness center. Representatives from a variety of local and out-of-state businesses will be on hand. Bring your resume and other necessary paperwork. For more information, call (702) 652-3327.
