New Lightning AMU officially opens

A U.S. Air Force F-35 Lightning II sits on display in the new Lightning Aircraft Maintenance Unit hangar March 18 at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. The new hangar will also have an engine maintenance addition built into the facility. Engine maintenance will now be conducted in the same facility the aircraft is stored in. Not moving an engine from one facility to another will make maintenance more efficient and ultimately reduce the amount of time the aircraft must remain on the ground.

The new F-35 Lightning Aircraft Maintenance Unit hangar was officially opened during a ribbon cutting ceremony March 18 at Nellis Air Force Base Nev. The new AMU hangar will ease operations for maintaining the F-35 Lightning II. The hangars new features include climate control and overhead crane access.
