Competition heats up: AF wounded warriors display athletic prowess

Fitness and teamwork are a way of military life. Serious illness or injury can profoundly impact that way of life. Adaptive athletic reconditioning helps wounded warriors build strength and endurance, while they draw inspiration from their teammates.

Wounded Warriors leave the starting blocks at the start of the men’s 100-meter race during the Air Force Wounded Warrior Team Trials, April 8 at Rancho High School, Las Vegas. The athletes will be participating in adaptive athletic reconditioning, which are athletic activities that are modified to meet the abilities of injured or ill individuals.

The goal of the Air Force Trials is to identify the most skilled wounded warrior athletes and end the event with two specific teams selected. Air Force Wounded Warrior’s main goal is to return Airmen to duty, and when that is not possible, to work with collaboratively with federal agencies and local organizations to ensure a service member’s successful reintegration back into his or her community.
