Q.“If I buy TRICARE Young Adult, when will my coverage be effective?”

A.TRICARE Standard/Extra and TRICARE Overseas Program Standard coverage is effective the first day of the next month, or the first day of the month requested up to 90 days in the future as long as your application and premium payment are received by your regional (stateside/overseas) contractor by the last day of the month.
For example, if the regional (stateside/overseas) contractor receives your application and premium payment between Jan. 1 and Jan. 31, your coverage will be effective February 1st, or you may choose your coverage to begin March 1, April 1 or May 1.
Coverage under TRICARE Prime options (including stateside, overseas, and U.S. Family Health Plan) are effective the first day of the next month as long as your regional (stateside/overseas) contractor receives your application by the 20th of the month. Your application must be received by the 20th of the month, not postmarked by the 20th of the month. If your application is received after the 20th of the month, then your coverage will begin on the first day of the second month following receipt of your application.
For example, if you want your coverage to begin Jan. 1, your application must be received by Dec. 20. If received after Dec. 20, your coverage will begin Feb. 1.
Note: If you’re about to lose TRICARE eligibility, you may choose to have your TRICARE Young Adult coverage begin the day after you lose your TRICARE eligibility. You must apply within 30 days of the loss of your TRICARE eligibility.

Note: Due to a Medical Group training and an official function May 9, the Mike O’Callaghan Federal Medical Center will be closed for normal operations with the exception of the emergency room and inpatient services. All outpatient clinics, including the main pharmacy, satellite pharmacy, laboratory and radiology will be closed for normal operation in support of the exercise. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.
