WASHINGTON — Air Force senior leaders and members of the Air Force Association and Air Force Sergeants Association gathered for a Memorial Day service and wreath laying ceremony May 26, 2014, at the Air Force Memorial in Arlington, Va.

During his keynote address, Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James A. Cody said that on Memorial Day, for him, the three spires of the memorial stood for freedom, fortitude and our fallen.

He went on to explain that Memorial Day serves a reminder that the freedom we all share was won by fortitude shown by our fallen service members in fighting and standing their ground.

“Today, and everyday, our fallen are with us in our stories and our memories, and they give us cause to wave our flags,” Cody said.

Young volunteers representing the East Coast Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen Inc. participated in the ceremony and displayed old portraits of select World War II veterans in a tribute to their service and sacrifice.

Also in attendance were the Air Force Sergeant’s Association International President, retired Chief Master Sgt. Daniel Yeomans, and Air Force Association President, retired Gen. Craig McKinley, who joined Cody in the ceremonial wreath laying.
