SAIC awarded DOD Nunn-Perry Award

Science Applications International Corporation has received the Department of Defense Nunn-Perry Award for mentor-protege excellence.

Named in honor of former Senator Sam Nunn and former Secretary of Defense William Perry, the award recognizes outstanding mentor-protege teams formed under the auspices of the DOD Mentor-Protege program. SAIC received the award in recognition for its exemplary efforts in mentoring the Vector Planning & Services Inc.

Headquartered in San Diego, Calif., VPSI is a small disadvantaged business specializing in systems engineering, information technology, information assurance and network services. Through the Mentor-Protege program, SAIC provided assistance that enabled VPSI to deepen its technical acumen through the attainment of both the International Standards Organization 20000 and Capability Maturity Model Integration Maturity Level 3 certifications. These and other mentoring efforts enabled VPSI to become a viable provider of technical expertise in the areas of Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence and information assurance to DOD and the wa fighter. Over the duration of the agreement, VPSI realized a 117 percent growth in revenues, with annual revenues currently in excess of $42 million.

SAIC has been an active participant in the DoD Mentor-Protege program for 20 years and has been recognized by the government for its participation in other civilian agency small business programs. SAIC has formally mentored more than 90 firms, enhancing their capabilities and increasing their participation in government contracts and serving as an engine for economic growth. This is the fourteenth time SAIC has been selected to receive a Nunn-Perry Award.

“We understand the value of establishing mentor-protege relationships and the value they can bring to all parties, including the DOD,” said Rick Reynolds, SAIC senior vice president and deputy business unit general manager. “SAIC is deeply honored and grateful to be recognized for our efforts under this agreement.”
