NASA C-20A wraps up Icelandic ice caps survey

The flight and ground crew team of NASA’s C-20A (G-III) environmental science research aircraft hosted a visit by U.S. Ambassador to Iceland Luis Arreaga (third from right) during their brief mission based in Keflavik, Iceland the first part of June. The aircraft, equipped with the sophisticated UAVSAR synthetic aperture radar developed at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has concluded the mission to gather data to develop 3D surface velocity fields for Hofsjokull and Langjokull ice caps in central Iceland. It is now scheduled to depart Iceland in mid-June for North Dakota, where it will engage in a study to aid in the development and validation of algorithms for a future soil moisture satellite mission.
