ISAF aircraft makes forced landing in Afghanistan

An International Security Assistance Force aircraft made a forced landing in eastern Afghanistan June 21, military officials reported.

ISAF is investigating the incident, officials said. Initial reporting indicates there was no enemy activity in the area.

All personnel on the aircraft were recovered and there were no civilian or ISAF fatalities, officials said.

In other Afghanistan news today:

  • In the Zharay district of Kandahar province, an Afghan-led, coalition-supported force detained two suspects during a search for a Taliban leader who is responsible for the June 19 “green-on-blue” attack.
  • A combined force detained a Haqqani weapons facilitator and one other suspect in the Sharan district of Paktika province. The detained insurgent was responsible for supplying weapons for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
  • A combined force detained four suspects in the Sabari district of Khost province during a search for a Haqqani leader who’s linked to the June 20 suicide bombing in Khost City and other attacks.
  • An Afghan-led, coalition-supported force detained five suspects during a search for a Haqqani leader in the Sabari district of Khost province. The insurgent leader plans and coordinates attacks against Afghan and coalition forces and provides IEDs to insurgents.
  • In the Charkh district of Logar province, a combined force is searching for a Taliban leader who specializes in attacks using mortars and IEDs.
  • In the Khugyani district of Nangarhar province, a combined force is searching for a Taliban member responsible for the acquisition, transport and production of IEDs for use in attacks throughout the region.

In other recent operations:

  • On June 20, Afghan Border Police and coalition forces detained four insurgents in the Khowst district of Khowst province.
  • On June 19, a combined force destroyed 3,300 pounds of explosive materials in the Nawah district of Ghazni province.
