Brig. Gen. Robert C. Nolan II, Air Force Flight Test Center commander, addresses a packed Alliance Ballroom in Club Muroc at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., June12 during his retirement luncheon. Nolan will leave the Air Force after a 33-year career. The general was presented with a shadow box with a flag and medals by Team Edwards. He relinquished command of the Air Force Flight Test Center to Brig. Gen. Arnold W. Bunch Jr. June 19. Under Nolan’s command, the AFFTC graduated more than 90 new test professionals from the U.S.A.F. Test Pilot School; further developed the operational envelope of the F-35A; oversaw innovative solutions for the F-22 oxygen problem; oversaw upgrades to systems on the C-17, C-5 and C-130; tested new gliders and powered flight platforms for the Air Force Academy; among many other achievements. “I’ve had the rare priviledge in Air Force Materiel Command to command soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen on behalf of the United States, and I can’t tell you how much appreciation I have for the men and women in this room.” Nolan officially retires Aug. 1.
