Edwards Civ-Mil selects 2012 service project

by Raphael Jaffe
Staff Writer

The Edwards AFB Civilian-Military Support Group has selected renovation of the Flag Park as a 2012 service project.

The Park, across from Building 1, shows the flags of all 50 states, U.S. territories and possessions.

Because of wind and sun damage – the flags are on continuous display – several sets of flags are being purchased. Aida O’Connor, Civ-Mil founder, has located a vendor in the United States so all the flags will be ‘Made in the USA.’

The flagpole brass nameplates will also be rehabilitated, with airman volunteers assisting Civ-Mil members.

In other Civ-Mil news, the nominating committee, chaired by Bob Johnstone of the Lancaster Aerospace Office, has submitted 10 nominees for the board of directors. Ballots, which will include biographies of the nominee, will be mailed shortly to all 126 Civ-Mil members. New director installation is scheduled at Antelope Valley University Grand Ballroom Sept. 13.

The July 26 barbecue arrangements have been finalized. The Antelope Valley Queens will be on hand to offer chances for a charitable 50/50 drawing.

Additionally, there will be attendance prizes including gift baskets and restaurant coupons. The menu includes steak or chicken, baked potatoes and salad. The location is the scenic Hacienda Lane Ranch.

For more information or directions, contact Mike Belzil at (661) 202-0934, or email rsvp@eafbcivmil.org. Alternatively, call (661) 942-1153.

Cost is $25 and dress is casual/Western.
