XCOR plans to continue operations at Mojave Air & Space Port

Aug. 23, XCOR Aerospace announced they will be starting operations in Florida.

That announcement, and an earlier one regarding operations in Midland, Texas, raised concerns about the future of XCOR at the Mojave Air & Space Port in California.

According to Andrew Nelson, XCOR’s chief operating officer, “We will have Mojave as an operational site for personal space flight participants and science mission flights.”

When asked about FAA/AST clearance for Lynx test flights at Mojave, Nelson said, “…we are going through the launch licensing process with Lynx Mark I.”

The Florida Press Release mentions tail number 3 as perhaps being built in Florida.

Tail number 2 is assigned to Curacao, said Nelson. “Space Expedition Curacao and XCOR Aerospace announced Sept. 19, 2011, the completion of a multi-million dollar transaction that secures the wet lease of production Lynx tail number two for operation on the Caribbean island of Curacao.

Regarding reports that XCOR might have a United Launch Alliance contract for a second stage engine, Nelson said, “It has been publicized that XCOR is working on a development project that may result in an upper stage Liquid Hydrogen engine for ULA.”
