Marine F/A-18C Hornet crash

 

A Marine F/A-18C Hornet crashed in a remote range area of the Fallon Range Training Complex at approximately 3:15 p.m., CDT, Sept. 1.

The pilot ejected safely from the aircraft and was treated at Banner Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon for minor injuries and has been released.

The pilot and aircraft are from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 323, based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif. VMFA 323 is part of Carrier Air Wing 11, which is currently conducting routine training at Naval Air Station Fallon.

No one on the ground was hurt in the incident. The cause of the mishap is under investigation.

 

Iran’s navy aims to sail off U.S. shores soon

 

The head of Iran’s navy says the country aims to put its warships in international waters off the U.S. coast “in the next few years.”

The comments Sept. 4 from Admiral Habibollah Sayyari on state TV are part of Iran’s response to Washington’s beefed up naval presence in the Persian Gulf.

The U.S. Navy’s 5th fleet is based in Bahrain – across the gulf from Iran – and the U.S. plans maritime war games later this month.

Iran has made similar claims in the past that its ships could soon sail into international waters off the U.S. coast.

Tehran and Washington have been in odd over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions that the West suspects it has aimed at weapon. Iran denies the charge. AP
