Veterans won’t want to miss the Third Annual Veterans Expo 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Oct. 27 at the Riverside County [Calif.] Fair Grounds.
The expo will offer assistance with healthcare, employment, education, legal issues, buying a home or just learning what benefits they are eligible for. Interested attendees will even be able to learn about and sign up for long-term care for elderly veterans and their families.
The event is in the Fullenwider Building at the fair grounds, on the corner of Highway 111 and Arabia in Indio. Any veteran, military member, their families and survivors, are invited to participate.
All veterans will be welcomed to the event, with food, entertainment, military exhibits, TV personalities, activities for the children, and watch for surprise “celebrity” guests.
The Third Annual Veterans Expo will host a 60- booth trade show, one of the largest collections of organizations serving a wide array of veterans’ needs. Last year’s EXPO served more than 500 veterans and family members.
During an opening program beginning at 9 a.m., local legislators will be on stage for a tribute to recognize four distinguished military members with appropriate honors. Two outstanding young Marines who are stationed at Twenty-nine Palms Marine Base, and two veterans from other earlier conflicts will be honored .
The guest speaker will be Secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs Peter J. Gravett, a retired Army major general.
Admission is free, and Sunline Busses will provide free transportation to and from the event from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with proof of military service, such as a DD-214 form, Military ID, or VA Benefits Card.
Anyone seeking benefits should be prepared to present their DD-214 form, or provide a Social Security Number and dates of service.
