General Dynamics awarded $133 million for Abrams Tank production

 

General Dynamics Land Systems has been awarded $132.7 million for the procurement and production of 69 Saudi M1A2 Abrams tanks for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This work is part of a plan by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to upgrade its fleet of tanks.

The Foreign Military Sales contract was awarded by the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command for the Royal Saudi Land Forces.

This contract extends work started in 2008 to update M1A1 and M1A2 tanks to the M1A2S configuration for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The M1A2S conversion increases the efficiency and capability of the tank.

The work will be performed by current employees at the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center in Lima, Ohio, with an estimated completion date of July 31, 2014.

 

ATK under contract to Israel Aerospace Industries for solar array on the AMOS-6

 

ATK’s Space Components Division in Goleta, Calif., signed a contract with Israel Aerospace Industries to provide the solar array to power the AMOS-6 (Affordable Modular Optimized Satellite). The solar array is ATK’s heritage Planar Unfolding Modular Array, which has demonstrated low non-recurring engineering cost (NRE), low risk, ease of satellite implementation, and 100-percent flight success performance on more than 50 solar array wings on-orbit.

With variants having been in continuous production for more than 10 years for programs like Boeing’s GPS-IIF satellites and Orbital’s STAR2 geosynchronous satellites, ATK’s PUMA array platform was a natural fit for IAI’s high-power commercial needs.

“We are pleased with this award for our modular PUMA solar array platform, which was adapted to meet the required 10.3 kW end-of-life power for the AMOS-6 communication satellite,” said David Shanahan, vice president and general manager, ATK Space Components Division. “Our tremendous success rate is a record we are proud of.”

The contract calls for delivery of ATK’s solar array in 18 months, with the option to perform work on the AMOS-7 solar array should IAI receive the follow-on contract from Spacecom in Israel.

 

Pratt & Whitney to support F100 engine maintenance for Republic of Korea

 

Pratt & Whitney, a unit of United Technologies Corp., has received a $300 million Performance Based Logistics contract from the Republic of Korea government in support of the F100 engines powering the Republic of Korea Air Force fleet of Lockheed Martin F-16 fighters and Boeing F-15K fighters.

This five-year parts and repair services program covers over 230 engines. Under the terms of the PBL, Pratt & Whitney will provide key support for the F100 engines in the intermediate engine shops and at the depot level.

“Pratt & Whitney is proud of our decades-long partnership with the Republic of Korea Air Force, providing reliable engines and affordable readiness in support of their fleet,” said Howie Chandler, vice president, Military Business Development and Aftermarket Services for Pratt & Whitney. “We look forward to expanding our level of support to the Republic of Korea Air Force’s fighter engines, further improving our position as a premier fleet management provider for military aircraft engine fleets around the globe.”
