General Dynamics awarded $52 million for maintenance work on USS Mississippi

General Dynamics Electric Boat has been awarded a $51.7 million contract modification by the U.S. Navy to plan and perform the post-shakedown availability on the nuclear submarine USS Mississippi (SSN-782).

Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics).

The PSA includes maintenance, repairs, alterations and testing. It will be performed at Electric Boat’s Groton shipyard. Up to 400 employees will be engaged in the work, which is scheduled for completion by December 2013.

Initially awarded in April 2012, the contract has a total potential value of $67 million.

In May 2012, Electric Boat delivered Mississippi to the U.S. Navy a year ahead of contract schedule and more than $60 million below target cost.

Mississippi is the ninth ship of the Virginia Class, the most advanced submarines in the world. These ships are providing the Navy with the capabilities it requires to retain its undersea dominance well into the 21st century.

 

Elbit Systems to provide U.S. Army with Skylark® I LE, Block 2

 

Elbit Systems Ltd. announced Jan. 16 that Elbit Systems of America, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Elbit Systems, has been selected for award by the U.S. Army ACC-APG, Natick Contracting Division on behalf of the Small Unmanned Aircraft System Product Office.

Elbit Systems of America was selected with four other companies to provide the full spectrum of SUAS products.

The scope of the award includes providing support and capability upgrades to current systems fielded by the U.S. Army including the RQ-11B Raven and the RQ-20A Puma. In addition, the customer has the option to procure from Elbit Systems of America the Skylark® I-LE Block II as an alternative Medium and Long-Range SUAS to meet anticipated future requirements.

Although this is a selection for award, the customer has no definitive purchasing obligation. The total aggregate potential value of all delivery orders to be awarded to all five companies under this award is $248 million.

 

NASA selects scientific computing, technical services contract

 

NASA has selected Computer Science Corporation of Falls Church, Va., to support the Computational and Information Science Technology Office at the agency’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

The computing and technical services contract is a cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract with a maximum ordering value of $103 million. The performance period begins March 1 and ends Feb. 28, 2018.

The contractor will provide high-end computing and data support and general support services for CISTO and information technology and computational services to support Goddard’s Sciences and Exploration Directorate. This includes access to high-performance computing, networking, mass storage, information systems technologies, computational science expertise, real-time transmission of satellite data, and support for the high-end computing program.
