Pentagon grounds Marine Corps model of F-35 fighter jet

The Pentagon and U.S. Navy Jan. 18 grounded the Marine Corps version of Lockheed Martin Corp’s F-35 fighter jet after an incident that occurred during a training flight at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida Jan. 16.

U.S. 787 probe puts spotlight on Arizona battery firm

Tucson, Ariz.,-based Securaplane Technologies Inc, which makes a charger for batteries used on the Boeing Co’s 787 Dreamliner, said Jan. 20 it would support an investigation into battery issues that have grounded the new planes.

Embraer, Finmeccanica unit discuss making helicopters in Brazil

Brazilian planemaker Embraer SA and a unit of Italy’s Finmeccanica SpA said Jan. 21 they plan to form a joint venture within months to produce helicopters in Brazil for military and commercial use in Latin America.

Smaller defense stocks seen as bargain amid cuts
