Honeywell Aerospace wins $72.4 million heavy vehicle maintenance contract for U.S. army

Honeywell has won a three-year, $72.4 million maintenance and training contract from the U.S. Army for Total Package Fielding Army Modernization Training to provide mission-capable vehicles and requisite training to safely operate and maintain heavy tactical vehicles.

The award is a component of the ongoing support that Honeywell Technology Solutions Inc. has been providing to the Heavy Tactical Wheeled Vehicles Program for over 18 years. Heavy Tactical is part of the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Heavy Tactical Vehicles Program Manager under the TACOM Transportation Systems Program Executive Office.

“HTSI has been involved in Total Package Fielding for over 18 years, and our experienced staff of professional managers, mechanics and instructors offers the Army the best value team available,î said Carey Smith, president of Honeywell Technology Solutions. ìOur teams have fielded and trained thousands of soldiers all over the world, and they understand the importance of ensuring that our soldiers are equipped to operate and maintain these trucks in any situation and in any region.”

HTSI was selected based on its expertise with maintenance, repair and overhaul, and up-armoring, fielding and training for military vehicles of all types. The HTSI staff is composed of experienced, certified mechanics who ensure that a new truck is “fully mission-capable” at the time of acceptance. Mechanics use Maintenance Support Devices that interface with the truck’s onboard computer systems to obtain pertinent data and guide all maintenance actions.

Honeywell employees also access electronic technical manuals and schematics that allow them to troubleshoot and correct any deficiencies before the official handoff to Army, Army Reserve or National Guard soldiers worldwide. The instructor staff is made up of a group of master instructors, as well as certified instructors, who are able to provide state-of-the-art training in real time to on-the-ground units before they take possession of the vehicles. This comprehensive training ensures that the vehicle operators know all characteristics, capabilities, and functions of the vehicles, and that maintainers know how to troubleshoot, order parts and repair equipment.

The 10-ton heavy tactical vehicles are integral to the Army’s logistical footprint worldwide and move personnel, supplies and equipment. Many of these truck systems ó such as the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck, the Heavy Equipment Transporter and the Palletized Load System are legacy vehicle systems that have been regularly updated with the latest technology and capabilities, and some have received full armor packages.
