NASA Dryden pilots, photographers at CSC Science Camp

NASA Dryden research pilot Nils Larson and photographer Jim Ross explain features of a high-altitude pressure suit to first and second-grade students in the Suited for Space class during the science camp at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.

Several NASA Dryden pilots and photographers who had a central role in the Space Shuttle Endeavour’s Tour of California on its final ferry flight and delivery to the California Science Center in Los Angeles last September shared their stories and images at the center’s “Mission 26″ hands-on science camp and exhibit, Aug. 9-10.

Dryden pilots Bill Brockett, Nils Larson and Troy Asher, photographers Carla Thomas and Jim Ross and videographer Lori Losey interacted with children who attended the science center’s space camp on Friday and autographed photos of Endeavour’s final ferry flight. They were also scheduled to speak with and sign autographs for the general public at the Mission 26 exhibit in the science center’s main building on Saturday, as well as speak about their experiences at a separate VIP event with sponsors of the science center’s Endeavour exhibit.

Brockett was one of several NASA pilots who flew NASA 905, the modified Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft that carried Endeavour from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida across the country on its final ferry flight. Larson and Asher flew F/A-18 mission support aircraft from NASA Dryden in formation with the piggyback combo, while Thomas, Ross and Losey provided spectacular air-to-air still and video imagery from the F/A-18s. Many of their photos are on display as part of the science center’s Endeavour exhibit.

The California Science Center is located at 700 Exposition Park Drive adjacent to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum near downtown Los Angeles.
