Boeing, the world’s largest maker of air freighters, is headed toward its fewest cargo jet orders since the 2009 recession as demand wanes for overnight shipments that once drove purchases.

Exotic weapons aim to destroy chemical weapons

The Pentagon has spent more than a decade trying to develop weapons to neutralize chemical weapons, the threat that has the United States poised to launch a missile strike on Syria, according to military planning documents and officials.

Pentagon opens criminal probe of Russian helicopter deal

The Pentagon has opened a criminal investigation into an Army aviation unit that awarded tens of millions of dollars worth of contracts to Russian and U.S. firms for maintenance and overhaul of Russian-made helicopters, according to people familiar with the matter.

U.S. Marines see progress in F-35 testing despite challenges

Two F-35 fighter jets have completed dozens of test flights from the deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp over the past three weeks, but several flights were scrapped Aug. 28 for maintenance issues, just as more than a dozen journalists arrived for a demonstration.

 

International:

Australian troops investigated after hands of dead insurgent are cut off

Australian special forces troops are under investigation for allegedly cutting off the hands of at least one dead insurgent in Afghanistan, a national broadcaster reported Aug. 30. The hands were brought back to the Australian base in Tarin Kowt in Uruzgan province to be fingerprinted after a battle in which four insurgents were killed, Australian Broadcasting Corp. said.
