A four-ship flyover by the Mojaviators Formation Flying Group set the stage for Rosamondís 37th annual William M. Ketchum Memorial Armed Forces Appreciation Day Parade Sept. 28, themed Star Spangled Pride.

Members of the community, high school bands, dignitaries and community queens donned red, white and blue to honor the military.

I am very honored to be a part of this event and I truly appreciate the folks coming out to show their support and respect, said World War II Veteran and Grand Marshall, Bert Dorosy, 88. It means a lot to me.

Drafted into the U.S. Army out of high school, Dorosy spent three years building bridges while under constant enemy fire. He served during three of Europeís biggest battles and never expected to come through the war alive. The Germans would shoot at us even while we were flying a white flag. They didnít want supplies to come. More than 400,000 American military personnel lost their lives during the war. I think it is very important that our youth know of the sacrifices made so they can continue to live free, said Dorosy.

Guests also enjoyed pie-eating contests, performing for Rosamondís Got Talent and other SeptemberFest activities at Glendower Park following the parade.

I think the parade and SeptemberFest was a good success, said Terry Landside, chairman of the parade, But I would like to see more of the businesses get involved. Rosamond Chamber of Commerce is very thankful for the communities support and encourages anyone with ideas or abilities to add the event.
