Northrop Grumman names VP, controller for Aerospace Systems Sector

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. -†Northrop Grumman has appointed Thomas P. Mendez, Jr., vice president and controller of its Aerospace Systems sector.

In this role, Mendez will be responsible for financial planning and analysis; financial reporting and accounting; budgets, rates and overhead management; government relations and compliance; resource management; and property administration for the sector.

Mendez brings more than 13 years of business experience, principally in the aerospace and defense industry, to his new position. Most recently, he served as corporate director and assistant controller for Northrop Grumman Corporation, where he was a key financial adviser to senior management. He led the corporate accounting and financial reporting operations, including oversight of corporate policies and procedures.

Prior to joining the company, Mendez was a senior manager with Deloitte & Touche LLP, where he gained more than 10 years of public accounting experience in all aspects of Securities and Exchange Commission rules and regulations and financial reporting, primarily serving large public companies in the industry. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve for six years before beginning his public accounting career.

“The current budget environment is challenging, with funding constraints driving unprecedented demand for aggressive approaches to affordability,” said Ken Bedingfield, vice president of Business Management and chief financial officer for Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems. “Tom’s experience enables him to offer new ways to manage our business and continuously improve our performance.”

Mendez earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Loyola Marymount University. He is a certified public accountant.
