The Army is migrating this year from locally controlled email to a large Department of Defense (DoD)-wide email system. The Network Enterprise Center is gearing up to guide you through the migration process with minimum impact. So what does this mean for you?
- Your email will be accessed much as it is now: Outlook on your desktop, CAC authenticated web email from any Internet connection with a CAC setup, and/or blackberry.
- You will have a larger mailbox (up to 40 times larger for the average user).
- Your e-mail account will follow as you PCS much like your AKO account does now.
- Accounts will be migrated overnight once it is your turn. Mailbox will need to be reduced below 50MB to migrate. Blackberries will need special migration, but will be handled similarly.
- Outlook Public folders will no longer be supported. Documents, Calendars and other items currently stored there will need to be migrated to the local SharePoint, File Server, or an Organizational Mailbox.
- Calendars will still be shareable in the new system (now across all of DoD).
Current schedule has Fort Irwin (not including MEDDAC) migrating starting April 3, but this date is subject to change. The most important thing you can do now is to stay informed and keep your mailbox small to help the speed of your migration. Keep your mailbox size at less than 50MB and store important items in a local Personal Folder.  You can upload your important items to your new mailbox after the migration is complete. If you don’t know what a PST is, you need to ask your IMO and get help now. Also get used to sending emails less than 25 MB since that is the EE attachment limit and will help keep our current mailboxes under the 50 MB total size migration limit.
