The 11th Armored Calvary Regiment’s Horse Detachment rais ed money to help support the 2012 Regimental Spring Formal by selling warrants and jailing Soldiers at Fort Irwin, Calif., March 28.

Wanted troopers served their time in the Horse Detachment’s mobile jail, a flatbed trailer with hay bales, where they were then driven around Fort Irwin for all to see. Troopers were given the option of posting their own bail by matching the price of their warrant instead of serving time. Warrant prices ranged from $10 – $60 and were based on rank. The Horse Detachment raised more than $300 from the fundraiser.

“They get really excited when you tell them about it and they’re like ‘Oh yeah, we’ve got someone in mind for that,’ and they just start running around asking everyone for dollars,” said Spc. Alexis D. Azevedo, Horse Detachment, Regimental Support Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment.

The idea for the jail came from Marisha Gardisser, Family Readiness Group leader for the ACR Horse Detachment. Gardisser was asked by the Horse Detachment to organize a jail fundraiser and was reminded of the success of the traveling jail that she saw as part of the Golden Days celebration in Fairbanks, Alaska.

“We are doing one last fundraiser to help the Regiment pay for the ball,” said Capt. Camden P. Donnelly, commander of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment’s Horse Detachment.
