Month of the Military Child fair and Olympics set for late April

By Cherie Cain
Assistant youth sports director

On April 28 at 10:30 a.m., Child, Youth and School Services will be hosting the Month of the Military Child Fair and the Olympics.  CYSS has a fun filled day planned for you.

Are you up to the challenge?  Do you have what it takes to become a recipient of the Presidential Fitness Challenge?

The Presidential Fitness Challenge has been in existence since 1966.  The President’s Challenge is the premiere program of The President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.  The President’s Challenge assists, informs and inspires people on their journey to be active and adopt a healthier lifestyle through awards and recognition. The President’s Fitness Challenge consists of a one mile endurance walk/run, sit-ups, shuttle run, push-ups and a sit and reach. There are three award criteria levels:

  1. Presidential Physical Fitness Award – Score above 85% of qualifying standards on all five activities
  2. The National Physical Fitness Award -  Score above 50% on all activities
  3. The Participant Fitness Challenge -  Receive a participation award

It is time to make physical activity a priority. The health of our youth on Fort Irwin depends on it! Regular physical activity in our youth promotes health and fitness.

Are you up to the challenge?  I know you have what it takes to become a recipient.  I look forward to seeing you on Saturday, April 28, 2012.

Calling all heroes of the future, sign up today by calling Youth Sports at 380-9405 or visit the Fort Irwin FMWR website for more information at http://fortirwinfmwr.com/
