Army Emergency Relief Campaign update April 12, 2012

This past year found our Soldiers and family members in severe financial need, some of which could have been devastating to their well-being if not for Army Emergency Relief.   Aside from the AER loan funding of emergency leave travel for Soldiers and family members, AER also assisted Soldiers when they received eviction notices to vacate quarters or when the bare basic needs such as food was required.   AER assisted families when their vehicles required costly repairs, when it was their only vehicle or the spouse was in the field at Fort Irwin or even deployed overseas.   We helped out many of our families whose spouse needed emergency dental work, or a family who needed a place to stay when their child is at Loma Linda Medical Center, or a family who could not afford a safe car seat for their child.  Fort Irwin’s AER program assisted 955 Soldiers and families in 2011 with a total of $ 1.01 million.  Of that amount, close to 20 percent was given as a grant to those Soldiers who do not have the ability to pay back a loan.  The AER campaign is still accepting donations from Soldiers, both active-duty and retired.   Please seek out the AER key worker in your organization and fill out a pledge form.  For more information, call 380-3513.
