Established in 1942 by the Secretary of War, Army Emergency Relief (AER) is proud to have helped more than three million soldiers and their families overcome financial emergencies during these last 67 years. Since its founding, AER has always been where soldiers are stationed when they needed help. While active duty soldiers receive the bulk of our assistance, we continually help retired soldiers and widows/widowers as well. We also have a robust education scholarship program that provides financial support for both dependent children and spouses. Charity Navigator, Your Guide to Intelligent Giving, lists the Army Emergency Relief Program as one of the best in the business. Why? Look at the chart below. The total revenue versus the total expenses are in line with the needs of the Army and you also see an excess of $2,264,024. This is because the program and administrative expenses, coupled with the overhead, are reasonable. Also note that AER has $302,162 Million in net assets (FY2010). This information is public knowledge through the Charity Navigator web site. No wonder AER is in a position to assist our Soldiers and their Families. Remember, HQ AER is non-profit, private company, who serves alongside the Army to take care of our Soldiers and their financial needs in times of distress and emergencies.

Why then should we donate to AER? Our Soldier and Family needs have become greater as each year passes. The need to keep the assets high helps to buffer the thousands of checks written each year by the 80 AER Officers throughout the Army. The added categories such as assistance for “replacement vehicle, rental cars, dental for the spouse and children, and other changes will require more money to assist our Soldiers. HQ AER’s Board of Directors continue to look at issues affecting our Army that can be approved to financially assist us. Your donations help to build the assets so we can continue to “take care of our own.â€Â The granting of money is on a “case by case†basis and is based upon ability to pay back a loan and other issues affecting the Soldier.  Please contact your AER Key Worker in your organization and donate today. If you have questions or comments, please call Bob Lucas, 380-3513 or e-mail at robert.c.lucas.civ@mail.mil.
