TODAY

In recognition of Month of the Military Child, Shockwave is offering a free lunch buffet meal to children under 12 with a paid adult during the month of April.  For more information, call 380-8646.

TOMORROW

The Family Advocacy Program will be at the Fort Irwin Thrift Store from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide information on child abuse prevention in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month.  For more information, call 380-4470 or 380-4474.

The Middle School Teen Center and the EDGE program presents “Neon Night in Paris” dance on April 27 at Sandy Basin Community Center.  There will be a DJ, dancing, raffles, a caricature artist, photos, and glow-in-the-dark effects.  Middle Schoolers will have their dance from 4-6 p.m. and high schoolers from 7-10 p.m.  For more information, call 380-3732.

 

SATURDAY

There will be a candle making class from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Fort Irwin Arts and Crafts Center.  Cost is $12.50 per person and includes materials for making two candles.  For more information, call 380-3431.

The Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program will host a paintball tournament at the Outdoor Recreation paintball field on Goldstone Road from 6-11:30 p.m.  Cost is $50 per six-person team.  Sign up at Outdoor Recreation, Bldg. 4100.  For more information, call 760-267-1726.

 

SUNDAY

There will be a skeet and trap competition from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the skeet and trap range on Goldstone Road.  Cost is $10 per person.  For more information, call Sgt. Davis at 760-267-1726 or email fica.boss.rep@hotmail.com.

 

MONDAY

There will be financial management readiness training from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bldg. 109.  This training is held on the first Monday of each month.  For more information, call 380-9194.

 

TUESDAY

The Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program will host the BOSS Jam Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  at the Four Plex field across from Coyote Activity Center.  There will be music, games, food, and more.  The event is free.  For more information, call Sgt. There will be a meeting of the international spouse support group from 10 a.m. to noon at Cracker Jack Flats Neighborhood Center.  The goal of the group is to bring together foreign-born spouses for an informal gathering to connect with each other, talk about adjusting to life in America and in the military, learning English, citizenship issues, raising children, and more.  For more information or to register, call 380-3598 or email Maritza.l.ramirez@us.army.mil.

There will be a national prayer luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sandy Basin Community Center.  Lt. Col. Douglas Prentice, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment chaplain, will be the guest speaker.

 

WEDNESDAY

Fort Irwin will hold a Days of Remembrance commemoration at Sandy Basin Community Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to pay homage to Holocaust victims.  The commemoration will feature displays and information.  No reservation is needed.  This event is open to all.  For more information, call 380-4961.

UPCOMING

SKIES Unlimited’s School of Acdemics is offering three-day SAT prep courses.  The next course is is May 22-24.  Course times are 5:30-7:30 p.m.  Cost is $30 for three sessions.  For more information or to register, visit Parent Central Services in Bldg. 109, go to www.fortirwinfmwr.com, or call 380-7751.

SKIES Unlimited will offer drivers’ education classes for teens 15-17 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 4-7 at Bldg. 1019, Education Center Annex Classroom D.  The class includes 30 hours of classroom instruction, six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction, a DMV handbook, parent training guide and student workbook.  The instructor will schedule the behind-the-wheel training, which will take place in Barstow, after the 30 hours of classroom work has been completed.  It is suggested that families plan to reside in the area for six months beyond the class date.  Space is limited.  All participants must be registered with CYSS before enrolling.  Cost is $305.  To register or for more information, visit Parent Central Services in Bldg. 109.

The next Facebook Roundup radio show with Col. Kurt Pinketon, Garrison commander, will be May 9 at 2:30 p.m.  The Garrison commander will take live questions from the Fort Irwin community via the Fort Irwin Facebook page and phone calls made into KNTC 88.3 FM. On the day of the show, look for the “FACEBOOK ROUNDUP” tab on the National Training Center/Fort Irwin Facebook page and at 2:30p.m. you can call into the KNTC booth at 760-380-KNTC.

 

ONGOING

AAFES is offering a drawing for a trip for two to Costa Rica through May 3.  Five runners-up will receive a $1,000 AAFES gift card.  No purchase is necessary.  To enter, visit The Exchange.  Entrants must be 18 years old.

 

Red Cross seeks volunteers

The Fort Irwin American Red Cross station has openings for volunteers in areas including youth activities, publicity/photography, veterans history project coordinator, records chair, casework chair, and more.  For more information, visit the Red Cross at Bldg. 566 on Third Street or call 380-3697.

 

Right arm night 

At 4 p.m. on May 1, Right arm night will take place at Shockwave.  Bring your “right arm,” a person or people close to you, and enjoy food, drinks, and camraderie at Shockwave. The Association of the U.S. Army will sponsor the event and there will be raffles and prizes.
