Where do you volunteer?
I volunteer with the Employment Readiness Program.
What you do as a volunteer?
I helped set up and coordinate the employer meet-and-greet we had in March. If I am available, I update The Seeker employment newsletter and also do any clerical work needed. I take part in classes offered by ERP and other Army Community Service programs and sometimes help to set them up as well.
What you get out of volunteering?
I’ve met some great people through volunteering. I’ve also been able to learn a lot about what the Army and Fort Irwin have to offer, especially through ACS.
How you got started as a volunteer?
I was meeting with Silvia Moreno, the ERP manager, for help building my resume and to find out about employment opportunities on post. Before leaving, I asked who I would speak to about volunteering and she gave me a contact but also mentioned that she needed an administrative assistant.
What advice would you would give someone about volunteering?
Everyone should do it. There are so many opportunities. You can volunteer as little or as much as you want. As a bonus, you can add everything you do with volunteering to your resume.
