Guard Start junior lifeguard program will take place beginning 10 a.m. Monday at Oasis Pool. The Town of Apple Valley will hold its annual Freedom Festival from 2-10 p.m. July 4 at Lenny Brewster Sports Center at 21024 Otoe Road.Â There will be music, food, and activities.Â Fireworks will start at 9 p.m.
There will be a Ramadan celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 18 at Sandy Basin Community Center.Â Come learn about this holiday, and enjoy food, music, and guest speakers.Â All are welcome to attend this event.

Local veterans interested in sharing their story are invited to participate in the Veterans History Project, a national initiative sponsored by the Red Cross.Â The program was established by Congress in 2000 to preserve the stories of veterans and civilians supporting U.S. war efforts as far back as World War I.Â Interested veterans will be interviewed by Red Cross volunteers.Â Each interview will be sent to the Library of Congress and the veteran will be given a DVD copy of the interview and a dedicated website at www.loc.gov/vets.Â For more information, call Bill Havican at 380-6140 or 380-3697 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

Samâ€™s Smoke Shop, at 1620 West Main Street in Barstow, and the Phillips 76 gas station on East Main Street in Barstow have been designated off-limits to all Soldiers stationed at the National Training Center and Fort Irwin.
The nature of business conducted in these locations has been found to be detrimental to the health and welfare of Soldiers. Fort Irwinâ€™s leadership is taking this action to protect Soldiersâ€™ health and welfare. Â
