Guard Start Program

SKIES Unlimited brings to you “LifeGuarding for Tomorrow,” which is a program for 11-14-year-olds that provides a foundation of aquatic and leadership knowledge, attitudes, and skills for future successful completion of an American Red Cross Lifeguarding course. Instruction takes place July 16-27, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon. The fee for the course is $105 and includes a t-shirt. The Guard Start curriculum contains multiple units in five categories: Prevention, Fitness, Response, Leadership and Professionalism. Your child must a strong swimmer in order to take this course. Children must also be responsible, reliable, mature and be able to handle professional instructions. Benefits of this course can lead to experience and becoming an intern for the Hired! program. Celebrating Unity during Ramadan

The Fort Irwin EO/EEO Offices along with 51st Tactical Interpreter Company with Regimental Support Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, invites the community to attend the “Celebration of Unity during Ramadan” at the Sandy Basin Community Center on July 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The ceremony will commemorate contributions to the United States by people of the Muslim culture. It will highlight the struggles and triumphs of many Muslim American citizens and recognize their contributions to American society and the world. The event fosters awareness and develops cultural sensitivity for differences between the traditions and customs of people from Muslim nations. The celebration is aligned with the start of Ramadan, the fasting month. Being one of five pillars of Islam, Ramadan falls on the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and begins on July 20. There will be music, food samplings provided by an authentic Middle Eastern caterer, and traditional deserts provided by 51st TICO Family members.
